Puppy Must-Haves

Doodle.png

This is a list of items that we recommend and use ourselves with the puppies and our dogs.

Crate

This valuable tool is a mush have. Your puppy will need a place to go to for comfort and sleep. It is also very handy for potty training.

Dog Exercise Pen

This is a great tool to keep the puppy in areas that you want them and out of areas you don’t want them. You would need something like this if you want to follow our setup suggestion for when you first bring your puppy home. It can also be used outside.

Puppy Pads

These may be helpful during potty training. (These are the puppy pads we use with the puppies)

Dog Bed

A nice soft bed will help the puppy feel at home and comfortable. You may also want to consider getting a small blanket for them to burrow in.

Food & Water Bowls

Get some that are easy to clean and will hold up long term.

Collar & Leash

You’ll have to get new ones as he puppy grows, but it’s important to have some to start with to attach their ID tags to and take the puppy on walks.

Toys

Your puppy has growing teeth and is teething. They will want to chew A LOT! It’s best to give them some toys they can chew on safely to help minimize the destruction of your possessions. â€‹

Snuggle Puppy

The Snuggle Puppy will be your puppies new best friend. It helps with crate training by reducing negative behaviors such as whining and barking. It helps your new puppy transition to their new home and reduces stress.

Kong

This is a great toy and treat holder to help your puppy while being in their crate. Fill it with some peanut butter and give if to your puppy whenever you need to leave them in their while you leave the house or at night. This helps teach your puppy that the crate is a good place. â€‹

Treats

A good healthy treat for when you want to train your puppy or just reward good behavior

Puppy Teething Ring

Puppy love these to chew on while they are teething.

Food

There are many options for dog food, so it’s important to do your research. Find something that is nutritional and appropriate for your dog’s breed, age, and size. Save time and money by using subscribe and save!

Chew Toy

This is by far all of our dogs favorite chew toy. We have several of these around the house for the dogs to chew on. It's a toy they love to chew and it keeps our shoes and kids stuffed animals safe!

Dog Puzzle

Entertain your dogs with this fun interactive dog puzzle.

Slow Feeder

Sometimes puppies and dogs eat to fast which then makes them throw up their food. Try this fun slow food feeder. It slows them down while they eat but also entertains them.

Flea and Tick Provention

This is what we use on all of our dogs. We like this brand because it works and it is safe to have on our momma dogs.

Grooming Supplies

Brushes & Combs - There are different types of brushes that will help keep your dog's coat free from matts. Here are a few we recommend

Slicker Brush

Wire Brush

Bristle Brush

Metal Comb

Brushes alone can be deceiving. It is possible to brush only the top layer of hair and leave matts underneath. A comb helps “check your work” and get everything smooth. â€‹

Shampoo, Conditioner,

& Detangler

Most people only get shampoo for their dogs, but with higher maintenance coats a good conditioner and detangled will be life-saving at grooming time!

Hair Dryer

If you do give your dog a bath, drying their hair while brushing it will decrease the chance for matting. Remember: Wet = matts!

Nail Clippers

A good set of nail clippers are helpful to have on hand if you don’t go to the groomer or vet super regularly. Be sure to watch some how-to videos before attempting to clip nails yourself! â€‹

Hair Clippers

If you do decide to do all grooming at home, a good set of clippers is a must! We have tried several kinds. We tried the really expensive ones but they didn't hold up. We found these and LOVE them! This is what we use to trim all of our dogs.
